Greetings challengers, for this weeks blog we wanted to give an update on where we are at with the development of Mythos.
On the programming side of things, our developers are hard at work building the game environment. We have a working database to store player, card, and any other information. We have also found a solution for connecting to other players online, and have a working system that allows players to end their turn. The actual game environment is still under development, but we do have some basics laid out, like holding the cards in your hand. As far as what still needs to be done, these are of our largest concerns:
Bringing in the board, cards, and UI elements
Placing the cards on the board
Behind the scenes combat code
Next, we have the artists, who are hard at work finishing up all the characters, support cards, and spells that we plan on adding to the game. We have a total of 120 cards, which are split into 80 characters, 20 spells, and 20 support cards. Overall around half of the card art is complete, and within the next couple weeks we are looking to finish the rest up.
Our design team has been working heavily on balancing all of our characters inside the game, as well as coming up with a UI design for our game. We are looking to get some play testers for the alpha version of Mythos, and will be working on balancing changes after we have feedback from real players.
As for the marketing team (go me!), we recently posted our new website, which you are on right now! We still have some sections we are looking forward to posting on the site soon, including but not limited to:
Card gallery
Patch notes
Team information
Our next big focus is social media, so if you haven't already be sure to follow us on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and join our community discord for first looks at Mythos.
Lastly, we have the narrative team. They had a lot to do early on in the project, writing lore for the world and every character, spell, and support cards. Since the rest of the team needed the narrative elements in order to further development, most of our lore is complete, leaving only some small world building elements left to complete for the last couple weeks.
Overall, we are hitting a bit of a crunch time, and are expecting to complete a large majority of the game in the next two-three weeks. We have an Expo at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater coming up on May 4th, from 4pm-8pm. More information on the MAGD Expo can be found on the link above. This expo will be our first opportunity to showcase our games progress, and is also a great chance to get some play testing done.
We are super excited to put the finishing touches on Mythos and give you guys the opportunity to play! We are looking to publish this game by May 14th, and can't wait for you guys to see what we have been building for the past few months!
